My reply to Apples' answer to FCC

Everyone know the issue of Apple blocking Google Voice App for iphone and some commented the Apples apple is rotten ;) well, even I think the same way.. Now recently Apple answered to the questions of FCC. Heres the question and answer:

Image

Question 1. Why did Apple reject the Google Voice application for iPhone and remove related third-party applications from its App Store? In addition to Google Voice, which related third-party applications were removed or have been rejected? Please provide the specific name of each application and the contact information for the developer.
Contrary to published reports, Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it. The application has not been approved because, as submitted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voicemail. Apple spent a lot of time and effort developing this distinct and innovative way to seamlessly deliver core functionality of the iPhone. For example, on an iPhone, the “Phone” icon that is always shown at the bottom of the Home Screen launches Apple’s mobile telephone application, providing access to Favorites, Recents, Contacts, a Keypad, and Visual Voicemail. The Google Voice application replaces Apple’s Visual Voicemail by routing calls through a separate Google Voice telephone number that stores any voicemail, preventing voicemail from being stored on the iPhone, i.e., disabling Apple’s Visual Voicemail. Similarly, SMS text messages are managed through the Google hub—replacing the iPhone’s text messaging feature. In addition, the iPhone user’s entire Contacts database is transferred to Google’s servers, and we have yet to obtain any assurances from Google that this data will only be used in appropriate ways. These factors present several new issues and questions to us that we are still pondering at this time.
We are continuing to study the Google Voice application and its potential impact on the iPhone user experience. Google is of course free to provide Google Voice on the iPhone as a web application through Apple’s Safari browser, just as they do for desktop PCs, or to provide its “Google-branded” user experience on other phones, including Android-based phones, and let consumers make their choices.

Now, Apple, tell me, have you read the Google Voice Privacy Policy at http://www.google.com/googlevoice/privacy-policy.html ?? Its clearly said that Google will store those information in their server and if you see the Google's Official Privacy Policy, you will understand what they do with these informations! And as you (apple) said that let consumers make their choices why do you bother, let them choose. They have full freedom to remove Google Voice app (read the "Your Choices" in the Google Voice Privacy Policy page).

Google Wave.... yay!! :D

Recover the XP drive in Vista or Vista Drive in Windows 7

After installing Vista with XP or Windows 7 with Vista on dual boot, you might be wondering where in the world is the c: drive in which your old OS is residing? But when you boot in your old OS, you can see it also. This is not a big problem actually. The latest Windows OS automatically changes its system drive letter as C, its better to use C. But when you access any other OS all the drive letters will be back in your old fashion. :) So if you are wondering wheres your drive, dont worry, Since the drive letter C is already used by the new OS, your C drive is not having a Drive Letter now. So you just need to give a unused drive letter. For that, open Computer Management from Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management. A window pops up with many things on left bar. You can see Disk Management under Storage. Click that. You can see an interface like a disk partition software. In it, you can see all your present drives with its respective drive letters, but wait, you can also see one drive without any drive letter :) now thats our dear missing drive :)
Image

Now right click that and select "Change drive letter and paths..." In that, select ADD and there will be a dropdown box having all the available drive letters. You can choose any drive letter you wish and the missing drive will be having that drive letter.

Dont worry about the working of the old OS, in it that drive will be C itself :)

Windows 7 - a preview

Its my weakness to test the latest softwares.. I managed to get almost all the beta and pre-beta of Vista and just like that I managed to get a copy of Windows 7. I downloaded it myself with my stupid wireless card and it took my 5 full days to finish the download. Ok now, about the OS, I cannot say that I got what I expected from Microsoft. I installed it only 3 hours ago, and the things that are changed includes:

1) It includes Windows Media player 12. Its nice, with a better Now Playing window, but it lacks a better button to switch between Now Playing and Library.

Image

2) RAM usage is less, even though not so less. It still takes 1.1 GB with all basic softwares installed (includes Nokia PC Suite, all drivers, Firefox, updates, Norton 2009 etc.) while it takes 1.5 in Vista.

3) The theme has changed, the taskbar entirely changed. By default you can see only the buttons, without labels. But it can be changed. I dint like this view, but fortunately it can be changed back. And its a big thick which doesnt give a good look. When the theme is classic, its horrible!!

Image Image

4) It has a new theme selector. The view of themes has changed and also there is an option to change the background image in specific intervals. It lacks a turnoff button when we right-click the desktop.

Image Image

5) It has got a new booting style. It has a glowing Windows Logo instead of nothing in Vista and the background aurora image of Vista is replaced by a better blue color aurora, unfortunately I could not take a screenshot of it.

6) It has got Desktop Gadgets without sidebar. But it has a bug, that is, it wont work when the UAC is turned off, which normally people dont like turned on! The gadgets will be floating on the desktop.

7) If we move a window to the top of the monitor, it will maximize automatically, and if we click and drag the title bar of maximized window, it will be back to normal. Also for multidisplay, if we move a window to left/right it will arrange itself to that side. Its really a good feature.

8 ) The taskbar preview is much improved. All the explorer windows will be on single button and if we keep mouse over it, we can see all the open windows and we can get a preview of that alone if we keep the mouse over it for sometime. At that time all other windows will go transparent. Its also a nice feature

Image

10) Interface has improved, certain technical terms has been removed. There is an option to remove the notification for all applications separately.

11) It has all other features like 3d-Flip as in Vista

12) It doesnt have an Email application, Movie Maker and some other applications also.
13) Documents and Settings changed to Library, which include Document Library, Music Library, Videos Library and Pictures Library.

Image

14) When maximized, Window has the transparency unlike in Vista

15) My personal favorite, it shows both time and date in the taskbar :)

16) It has a Send Feedback button near the close button of every window through which we can directly send our feedback to Microsoft.

I found several bugs and also the entire explorer crashed when I tried to add songs to the Media Player library. I already forwarded a huge report to Microsoft and some suggestions to the Microsoft Forums. If they are really serious about this release, trust me, Windows 7 will rock. It will be the best OS. I am impressed with the work, that too in short span of 2 years. :)
